Esti
I have always loved dancing. Since I was young I have had dancing classes, jazz ballet and modern dance, although I don’t know if you can call running-around-in-a-pink-
But I wanted more. I was used to ballroom training and the weekly hour of salsa wasn’t enough for me. I wanted to get in to SoShow! They held auditions and I came, saw and conquered. They accepted me! And from then on I got to know a lot of people who I practically consider family now. The following year I joined four more committees: SoKo², SoFiesta, SoShow & SoEstilo.
After that crazy year of committees and SoShow I was asked to be a candidate president for the year 2009/2010; probably because I was crazy enough to do 5 committees in a relatively short time. I felt and still feel honoured for that. Of course my answer was yes!
The rest of our board is great! I’m really looking forward to make this year work.
Conclusion: I love dancing, I love salsa and I really really love SoSalsa! If you see me on our parties and borrels and you can’t see the same thing from the way I look, you have the permission to bitchslap me.
Romano
My name is Romano Chandansingh (yeah it’s long I know) and I will be you Secretary for the following year. My parents are from Surinam which means I grew up dancing. Though I actually didn’t like dancing, yes you read it right, I didn’t like dancing.. till I was twelve. I did my first Salsa course at that age, because some friends of mine started doing it. Okay okay, it was a girl I liked who was joining too... But I really sucked! I couldn’t do it people actually laughed at me, so I quit after a second course and I started practicing break-dance with a couple of friends. Every spare minute we had we crashed the gym hall at our school, laid down some mattresses and started doing crazy stuff. So that was all I did for dancing, till I had the opportunity to do a couple of salsa workshops at school. Which I loved! So I promised myself I’d start doing Salsa again, but off course I didn’t. Till the Owee in my first year at Delft where I got to know of SoSalsa! I enrolled immediately and started dancing salsa again, a lot! And so here I am! Hope I don’t let you down ;)
Remko
Mountain biking, skating, climbing, motor driving and then there was Salsa. Actually I didn’t think that I would get interested into dancing. Ok, I have to admit I was a little bit curious, but I never went to dancing lessons until a girlfriend invited me to go to one of the lessons of Jan and a girl. That was two year ago, since than I subscribe to the lessons of Jan and Vivian. From there on I went fast. At one of the SoSalsa borrels Jan-Wouter convinced me to join SoSalsa. Went to a lot of party’s in Delft, Leiden, Utrecht, Zoetermeer, Haarlem, Den Haag, Rotterdam. One year later I even stated to dance Zouk. This year I will keep the balance positive till next year.
See you at the party’s,
Zaid
Just like any international student starting out in Delft, I wanted to get to know the people here and have some fun with a good group of friends in the university. So when I came to Delft to do research in computer engineering and bioinformatics, I found myself involved in many things like martial arts, photography, tennis, climbing, and of course salsa. I did not consider myself to be any good at salsa at first, but I still joined the SoSalsa society because I really liked the people and the friendly atmosphere they provided in their activities and parties. A year later, I was asked to be part of SoCial (the promo team of SoSalsa), which is a group of people that goes out together to hang out and talk to others about the society and the activities we organized. I agreed right away, since this was exactly the kind of thing I'd like to be doing. Gradually I got to know the people in the board of SoSalsa even better and the way the society was organized, which eventually ended up with me going all the way to the top of the society, and landed me a position as the PR commissioner of SoSalsa. Now, I myself am trying to keep up that warm and friendly atmosphere in SoSalsa that got me hooked up in the first place, and attempting to get even more people hooked up and excited about it. To tell you the truth, I never thought I'd come this far in the society, but I'm glad I did. And by the way, I've come a long way dancing salsa as well, something that I'd be happy to show you at any of our parties. So join us for once and ask me for a dance ... you will not be disappointed ;-)
Tara
My name is Tara Hubeek(20), I will be your activity-commissioner during this year. Salsa is and always has been a big part of my life. I started dancing salsa when I was around 5 or 6 years old. My mom attended a salsa course in Breda at the danceschool ‘Escuela de Salsa’, with Tony Bottse, whom I consider to be the best salsa teacher there was. She brought me and my brother to almost every lesson, where I learned my salsa by looking and dancing on the sideline. At that time, people were still dancing the basics with right in front and left to the back (which is the other way around now). Years past by and my mom was assisting and dancing in the showgroup of ‘Escuela de Salsa’… I joined a salsa course for children when I was 8 and then another one when I was 12, which I danced with my mom (she was the ‘male’ dancer), since I didn’t like to dance with all those ‘old’ man(since I was only 12years old)! Tony was not just our dance teacher…he was a really good friend and like a father to me. Almost 4 years ago he died, of cancer. The man that had inspired me so much, was gone. That was a very difficult period, I think after that I didn’t dance for over half a year. After thinking it through, I realized he wouldn’t have wanted me to stop dancing. That year I took a couple more courses (at SalsaCura).September 2007 had come… I was going to study in Delft. At the Owee I joined SoSalsa… Finally people to dance with of my own age, haha. In October there were auditions for SoShow. I hardly knew anyone in SoSalsa, but I did attend the audition, because I wanted to dance in a showgroup so badly! I never regret doing that, just like I don’t regret joining SoSalsa. I met a lot of fun, intelligent people and even people I will be friends with for the rest of my life!Dancing is an expression of your emotions, like Tony said: dansen doe je met gevoel (dancing you do with your feelings… not by counting!).
The truest expression of a person is in its dance and in its music, bodies never lie!
I hope to see you all at one of our great parties or borrels!
